Sacraments

Children receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the second grade, and Confirmation in the eighth grade. Parents must attend a sacramental preparation meeting in the Fall at which presentations are made on the theology of the sacrament, the preparation program, the involvement of the families, etc. Special sessions will be arranged for students who have not been prepared for Reconciliation or Eucharist and are older than the second grade, or students who have not been confirmed and are older than eighth grade. Please notify the Religious Education Office in these cases.

STUDENTS MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED AND ACTIVE IN A SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF FORMAL RELIGION CLASSES TO BE ADMITTED TO THE SACRAMENTS.

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN

We joyfully celebrate the Baptism of children of Christian households, which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community. Parents are asked to call the Parish Office at 630-530-8515 for information on the parent preparation meeting and to schedule a date for Baptism. Baptism is celebrated twice a month on scheduled Sundays at 1:00pm. We do not celebrate Baptisms during Lent.

RECONCILIATION

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available each Saturday Afternoon, 4:00pm-4:45pm, in the Church and the first Friday of the month after the 6:15am Mass.  The priests are available during the week by appointment. Communal Reconciliation services are held seasonally throughout the year.

EUCHARIST

Formation for children coming for the first time to the Table of the Lord is incorporated into the efforts of Immaculate Conception Grade School and Religuous Education Program, and is a two year process.  Generally children will celebrate this sacrament in the Spring of their second grade year.

CONFIRMATION

We welcome the young adults of our community into a deepening of their commitment and involvement with their faith community through the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Formation is a two-year process compoleted in eighth grade.  Please call the Religious Education Office at 630-530-5262 for more information. At Immaculate Conception Parish, the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the eighth grade year. All students must have been enrolled in two consecutive years of religious education if they want to be confirmed in eighth grade. (i.e. student must have been enrolled in a 7th grade religious education program at IC or another parish.) All eighth graders, both in the RE and at our parish grade school, are confirmed together in the spring of their eighth grade year. Please contact Josephine Bastianoni for any further questions, concerns, or special situations such as homeschooling, transfers, and/or special need students.

Requirements for Confirmation:

  • Presence at extra meetings this year
  • All about Me &Who Influences Me reports in the Fall
  • Attendance at Confirmation Retreat Day
  • Confirmation Interview Letter of intent

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The Anointing of the Sick sacrament heals us in mind, body and Spirit. It is offered at Immaculate Conception twice a year, usually in the fall and the spring. (More information about this sacrament can be found on the USCCB Anointing of the Sick Sacrament page.)

FUNERALS

Funerals are celebrated as the need arises.  The funeral director will contact the parish regarding arrangements.  A Bereavement Minister assists families in planning the Mass of Christian Burial.
